Variance decomposition and global sensitivity for structural systems

چکیده
This paper applies the Sobol’ decomposition of a function of many random variables to a problem in structural mechanics, namely the collapse of a two story two bay frame under gravity load. Prior to introduction of this example application, the Sobol’ decomposition itself is reviewed and extended to cover the case in which the input random variables have Gaussian distribution. Then, an illustrative example is given for a polynomial function of 3 random variables. In the structural example, the Sobol’ decomposition is used to decompose the variance of the response, the collapse load, into contributions from the individual input variables. This decomposition reveals the relative importance of the individual member yield stresses in determining the collapse load of the frame. In applying the Sobol’ decomposition to this structural problem the following issues are addressed: Calculation of the components of the Sobol’ decomposition byMonte Carlo simulation; the effect of input distribution on the Sobol’ decomposition; convergence of estimates of the Sobol’ decomposition with sample size using various sampling schemes; the possibility of model reduction guided by the results of the Sobol’ decomposition. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Historical and Variance Decomposition for Oil Price, Oil Consumption, OPEC and Non-OPEC Oil Production
Abstract I n this paper, the behavior of the real oil price and OPEC and non-OPEC oil production during 1973-2013 are modelled. Interactions among OPEC, non-OPEC oil production, global oil consumption, and the real price of crude oil are estimated using a Structural VAR model (SVAR). After providing evidence for the structural breaks in oil price in 1996, the results indicate that, ac...
متن کاملReinvestigation of Oil Price-Stock Market Nexus in Iran: A SVAR Approach
In this paper we investigate the effect of oil price shocks on stock market index in Iran, by using of a structural VAR (SVAR) approach. We used four variables in the model namely Kilian index, global oil supply, real oil price and real stock market index. The data are monthly and spanning the period 1997M10-2014M12. We identify the effect of four different shocks on stock market including oil ...
متن کاملGlobal sensitivity analysis by polynomial dimensional decomposition
This paper presents a polynomial dimensional decomposition (PDD) method for global sensitivity analysis of stochastic systems subject to independent random input following arbitrary probability distributions. The method involves Fourier-polynomial expansions of lower-variate component functions of a stochastic response by measure-consistent orthonormal polynomial bases, analytical formulae for ...
متن کاملGlobal sensitivity analysis for systems with independent and/or correlated inputs.
The objective of a global sensitivity analysis is to rank the importance of the system inputs considering their uncertainty and the influence they have upon the uncertainty of the system output, typically over a large region of input space. This paper introduces a new unified framework of global sensitivity analysis for systems whose input probability distributions are independent and/or correl...
متن کاملUpdating finite element model using frequency domain decomposition method and bees algorithm
The following study deals with the updating the finite element model of structures using the operational modal analysis. The updating process uses an evolutionary optimization algorithm, namely bees algorithm which applies instinctive behavior of honeybees for finding food sources. To determine the uncertain updated parameters such as geometry and material properties of the structure, local and...
